The acronym MES (Manufacturing Execution System) refers to an integrated approach to production going beyond the simple ‘data collection’ concept for real-time monitoring and optimization of the whole production process by making full use of IT procedures. MES solutions do not simply provide data, but rather they turn data into information to be processed and analyzed.
While the Management focuses on long-term strategies, a MES solution can contribute significantly to maximizing short-term performance, with an impact also on long-term goals.
OPERA MES is Open Data proprietary software. This is a complete modular high-tech product, for multi-plant environments, available in multiple languages and covering all the key MES areas: Production, Maintenance, Quality, Material management and HR.
Its main task is to manage and monitor in real time the whole plant by providing information on WIP, shopfloor efficiency referred to staff work/machines/cost centres, delay in production, quality and PL checks, batch track and trace, preventive maintenance, production FCS and so on.
OPERA integrates with any ERP system existing in your company for production order management, WIP and production performance analysis. System integration makes it possible to flow shopfloor data directly to the ERP and the other way round.

OPERA MES has been integrated with a number of ERP systems available on the market, from famous brand names to proprietary solutions ( JDE, SAGE, DYNAMICS NAV/AX, SAP, ORACLE, BAAN, MFG/PRO, and so forth.
The interface with the ERP system, which is often believed to be a complicated and costly procedure, is rather straightforward and reliable. Data can be transferred either through direct entering into your information system or by creating a communication procedure between WIP data entering and reading systems on a shared transition table.
OPERA MES provides a number of charts showing WIP, delay in production, hours worked calculation, yield, shopfloor/staff/machine efficiency, production indicators, downtime analysis, stock levels, batch tracking, process charts and so on. The system is made up of two components. On the one hand, the MONITOR enables communication between data collection stations while ensuring also the integrity of the information acquired. On the other hand, the INFORMATION SYSTEM provides for processing, analysis and accounting of collected data, with a view to monitoring all activities contributing to the production plan.
The monitor manages the whole network of data collection by interfacing with any hardware device, from fixed data collection terminals to portable Wi-Fi devices, traditional or industrial PCs, machine data collection cards, measuring tools, label printers and so forth. The information system gives access to real-time data on employees, machines, work orders, departments and tools, thus providing a clear view of all factory processes.
The current version of OPERA is based on a Microsoft.NET platform according to the standards of new 64-bit Windows operating systems and Framework-based technologies.
